Claude Desktop App: acht Updates im Faktencheck, und was davon wirklich giltClaude desktop app: eight updates fact-checked, and what really applies

Chat and Cowork are one, plus nested sessions, side chat, split view, new commands and mods. I checked the claims from a current video against Anthropic's documentation: most hold, two tips mislead.

Neue Funktionen kommen zuerst in Claude Code.

  • Teilweise
Die alte Design-Seite schließt Ende des Jahres.

Genauer: claude.ai/design bleibt bis 14. Dezember. Chats, Kommentare und öffentliche Links gehen dort verloren.

  • Teilweise
Motion macht Videos aus Code, Opus 5 schreibt die Animation.

Code statt Videomodell stimmt.

Was du behalten willst, gehört also in die Hauptsitzung.

Vier Befehle in Claude Code

/output-style

Was ist Claude 2.0?

On 3 November, a video came out on YouTube that walks through the Claude desktop app in eight updates. Its title calls the whole thing "Claude 2.0", a name that appears nowhere in the Anthropic pages I checked. In 15 minutes the video gives a usable overview. I work in Claude Code every day and checked each claim against Anthropic's documentation, changelog and articles, because two of its tips would otherwise set the wrong expectations.

the core in three sentences

The features exist: plan box, cards, nested sessions, side chat and split view work in the desktop app as shown. Two claims do not hold as stated: Claude Code has limits, and /advisor does not switch you to a cheaper model, it costs extra. The old site claude.ai/design ends on 14 December, so anyone working there should save chats and comments first.

What holds in the video and what does not

Most claims hold. The differences mainly concern the things you base a decision on, namely cost and limits.

Video against documentation

8 of 15 claims need a correction or have no evidence

  • Correct
Chat and Cowork are one tool.

Since 16 September, in stages: Pro, Max and Ultra first, Team and Free to follow, Enterprise since 23 October.

  • Not as stated
Claude Code has no limitations at all.

Plan usage is shared across all Claude Code surfaces. Agent teams exist only in the CLI, not in Desktop.

  • No evidence
New features reach Claude Code first.

None of the checked pages says so. Docs and Slides launched in the conversation, not the Code tab.

  • Correct
Plan box and cards with context next to the chat.

Since desktop v2.42304.0 of 15 October.

  • Correct
    A main chat starts sub-sessions.

They are called nested sessions. Local and SSH sessions only, not cloud.

  • Partly
A master session controls the other chats.

Not an official term, all sessions rank equally. Text only, no history and no files. Desktop sees the 20 most recently active by default.

  • Correct
Project threads keep running when your computer is off.

For cloud threads. A thread on your computer runs only while it is awake. Beta on Pro, Max and Ultra.

  • Correct
    Side chats are not saved.

The docs say so literally. They run only in local, SSH and WSL sessions.

  • Correct
Split view with the Option or Alt key.

Hold the key and click the session in the sidebar.

  • Partly
The old Design site closes at the end of the year.

More precisely: claude.ai/design stays until 14 December. Chats, comments and public links there are lost.

  • Partly
Motion turns code into video, written by Opus 5.

Code instead of a video model is correct. Anthropic names no specific model. Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise.

  • Not as stated
/advisor makes Claude work on a cheaper model.

You pick the main model yourself, the command only attaches an adviser. Its tokens cost extra.

  • Partly
/skill-doctor throws out what you do not need.

It shows cost and usage per skill. You turn things off yourself.

  • No evidence
Restart at 70 to 80 percent context.

The video's rule of thumb, not an Anthropic number. Official: automatic compaction near the limit, /compact and /clear.

  • Correct
A limit cockpit can be built as a mod.

The mod API returns percentage and reset time of plan limits. It gives no forecast for the next task.

Claims from the video of 3 November 2026. Checked against Anthropic's documentation, changelog and articles on the same day.

I still share the advice to move to the Code tab. For work on files and repositories it is right, only the reason "no limitations" does not hold up. If you only write text and touch no files, the chat serves you fine. How I set up Claude Code is covered in Setting up Claude Code.

Chat and Cowork: one since September

Anthropic merged Cowork and chat on 16 September. Everything Cowork could do now works from any conversation, and projects and connectors stay where they were. The Code tab stays separate. The change rolls out in stages, Pro, Max and Ultra first, Team and Free to follow. The earlier Cowork workflow is described in Claude Cowork.

New layout: the context card is the part that matters

Since 15 October, the Code tab shows cards on the right for environment, context, connectors, outputs, changes, servers and background tasks. A box at the end of the conversation holds the plan, which Claude ticks off as it works. The Context card states how full the window is as a percentage. For deciding when a session should end, that is the most useful number in the new layout.

The video advises having a handover written at 70 to 80 percent and starting fresh. That number does not come from Anthropic. The docs say that most current models have a 1M-token window and that Claude Code compacts on its own near the limit. They still recommend /clear between tasks, because a focused context gives better answers.

What the percentage in the context card tells you

Keep working

As long as the task stays the same, nothing needs to happen. If the topic changes, /clear pays off at any level.

Marked band: 70 to 80 percent from the video. Sources: Claude Code docs “Context window”, “Best practices”, “Model configuration”; retrieved 3 November 2026.

That is why I go by the topic rather than the percentage. When the task changes, I start fresh. When a long session ends, a skill of my own writes a session log with status, pitfalls and the next step. The next session then knows straight away what is open.

Nested sessions, Projects and side chat: four ways to split work

The terms sit close together, and the video partly treats them as variants of one thing. In practice two questions count: where does it run, and what arrives in your session.

Four ways to split work

The difference is where it runs and what comes back

Your session
  • Subagent

    Runs
Inside your session, as a background task
    Comes back
    The result, into the session

  • Nested session

    Runs
As its own session, local or SSH
    Comes back
A report to the original session
    Laptop closed
    Stops with the computer
  • Project thread

    Runs
Usually in the cloud, on its own branch
    Comes back
    Status in the project overview
    Laptop closed
    Cloud threads keep going
  • Side chat

    Runs
Beside the session, reads the history
    Comes back
Nothing, and it is not saved
    Laptop closed
Local, gone when the app closes

Sources: Claude Code docs “Desktop” and “Claude Projects”; desktop changelog; retrieved 3 November 2026.

Nested sessions are started by Claude itself when you ask for a separate task. Settings › Claude Code decides what happens then. Each one sends its own requests, so they are no way to save money compared with subagents.

Projects is the only variant you can leave running with the laptop closed. The threads are usually cloud sessions on their own branch, and the overview shows what is waiting for you. A thread that needs an approval waits right there, and an answer in the main conversation does not reach it.

The master session from the video is called cross-session messaging at Anthropic. A session reads the others and sends them text. Permissions and files do not travel with it, and each session keeps its own approvals. If you do not want this, set crossSessionInbound to refuse. Working in parallel also means two sessions can touch the same file. In my setup, only one session writes per area, more on that in Claude Code builds, Codex reviews.

Side chats open with Cmd + ; or /btw. They are meant for the question in between, such as what Claude is doing right now. Close the app and they are gone, so whatever you want to keep belongs in the main session. Split view takes one Option-click on a session in the sidebar.

Docs, Slides, Design, Dashboards and Motion: it depends on your plan

All five are artifacts you edit with Claude and share as a link. Slides download as PowerPoint or PDF. In Dashboards, Claude writes the queries, and each value shows its query and when it was last refreshed. Motion builds animations from code, without a video model, and exports MP4. According to Anthropic, it generates no people.

As of 3 November 2026

For individuals the Motion row matters most. The video shows the feature in the desktop app, but Pro, Max or Ultra will not get you it. If you use Claude Design on its own site, you have until 14 December: move design systems with "Migrate team design systems", projects keep working until then, and chats and comments disappear afterwards.

Four commands in Claude Code

/output-style

Sets how Claude answers. Default, Proactive, Concise, Explanatory and Learning are built in, and you can add your own. Concise leads with the result and leaves out preamble and recap. That it saves tokens, as the video says, is plausible, but Anthropic does not promise it. Switching mid-session also costs prompt cache.

Checks installation, extensions, CLAUDE.md, permissions and usage over the last seven days. Claude reports first and asks before any change. A run takes you a few minutes and changes nothing without your consent. /doctor prompt-audit also looks for outdated and contradictory instructions.

/skill-doctor

Shows the context cost of each skill and how often it is used, and marks those never used. Throwing them out is up to you. If you have collected many skills, this is the quickest lever, see also the setup. You need Claude Code v2.1.252 or later.

/advisor

This is where the video is furthest off. The command does not change your model. You work with the model you chose, and a second one advises at key moments. You only save if you pick a smaller main model yourself, and the docs give Sonnet with Opus as adviser as an example. Without that switch, costs go up.

The /advisor command

The adviser must rank at or above your main model

  1. 1Main model works

Sonnet 5.5 does the task, you chose it.

  2. 2Decision point

Claude decides on its own when to ask.

  3. 3Adviser reads along

It sees the whole conversation and advises.

  4. 4Main model continues

You pay the adviser's tokens on top.

Accepted advisers for Sonnet 5.5

Mods: powerful, but without a sandbox

A mod is code that runs inside Claude Code. It draws panes and bands in the terminal, in Desktop and in VS Code, reacts to events and calls its own API. Claude writes one on request through the built-in plugin-authoring skill. The limit cockpit from the video is feasible: $.session.usage() returns percentage and reset time of your plan limits. The forecast of how much a task will use does not come from there. It is the mod's own estimate and should be read as one.

The video leaves out the most important limitation. Mods run without a sandbox and with your permissions. A mod can read your files and secrets, see and change every prompt and approve tool calls in advance. Install other people's mods only from sources you trust, and check first with claude plugin validate ./folder what they call. --safe-mode turns off all mods for one session. The technology behind them is covered in more detail in Claude Code Mods.

What I would turn on this week

  1. Update the app and show the context card. It costs nothing and changes how you end sessions.
  2. Run /doctor, then /skill-doctor. Clean up first, then add new things.
  3. Practise the side chat shortcut. It is the feature with the lowest risk.
  4. Build a mod only if a specific display is missing, and only one you wrote or checked yourself.

For now I would skip /advisor unless I deliberately move to a smaller main model. If you are currently rethinking your plan's limits, read the change to the 5-hour limit first.

Frequently asked questions

What is Claude 2.0?

A nickname from videos and posts for the rebuild of the desktop app in autumn 2026. The name does not appear in the Anthropic pages I checked. It refers to unified Claude from chat and Cowork, the new layout in the Code tab and the features around them.

Is Cowork gone?

No. Cowork and chat have been one since 16 September, and everything from Cowork works from any conversation. The change rolls out in stages, and your chats, projects and connectors stay.

What is the difference between nested sessions and subagents?

A subagent runs as a background task inside your session. A nested session is a session of its own with its own row in the sidebar that reports to the original session. Nested sessions exist only locally and over SSH.

How do I open a side chat?

With Cmd + ; on a Mac, Ctrl + ; on Windows or /btw in the prompt box. Side chats read the conversation so far, write nothing back and are not saved.

Does /advisor save money?

Only if you also pick a smaller main model. The adviser costs tokens at its own price, on top of the main model. Anthropic says this typically costs less than running the stronger model throughout.

Do I get Claude Motion with Pro or Max?

No. According to Anthropic, Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise. Docs, Slides and Design are on every plan including Free, Dashboards on the paid ones.

Are mods safe?

They run without a sandbox and with your permissions. They can read files and secrets and see every prompt. Check other people's mods with claude plugin validate first and install only from sources you trust.

Sources and status

As of 3 November 2026. Anthropic changes these features weekly, so check the current docs before you decide. I evaluated the video through its transcript and description, not frame by frame.
